Roy’s & Our Last Day

Ugh. This is never a fun one to write. We hung out at the condo today and enjoyed the remnants of our last day on Maui.

The girls hit the cove early with some snorkeling while I finally used the good camera to catch a few close up shots of wildlife (I’ll have to add those later when I get them off the SD card).  The colorful flora and fauna here are spectacular and we have all spent time wishing that we could grow these beautifies back home.

The afternoon hit us early and snacks and leftovers were all spread out to consume early since our dinner reservations were for 4:45pm. We are early birds. Through and through, we wake early, we eat early, and we hit the sack early. It’s not for everyone, but it’s just how we roll.

The afternoon consisted of some Phase 10 card games, and a walk to the neighboring resort to check out their extensive koi pond.

That fun was followed by the realization that perhaps a nap was in order before dinner.

Dinner was - amazing. Roy’s is an Asian fusion restaurant and there’s one in Anaheim still so it’s somewhat local  there used to be one in SF but it’s since closed. We happen to love their molten lava soufflĂ© but we also love their fish. Todd and I got the butterfish, while Doug and Denise got the au (like swordfish). Papa? Well he got the fried chicken which isn’t perhaps a common choice in Maui but it was actually very tasty. Our girls got the filet mignon and everyone left happy and well fed. Of course the chocolate molten lava cake soufflĂ© was amazing.

The biggest thing that didn’t happen today was parasailing. We booked it. We paid for it. We were looking forward to it, and they text us two hours before that they were shutting down for the day. We think it was because of the strong winds. It was such a bummer for the girls because they were of course looking forward to it, but also because it’s our last day and we can’t reschedule. It seems like this just means that it wasn’t meant to be and we’ll have to try again in a different town. More adventures to come!

Papa’s 81st and A Relaxing Day at the Condo

We are winding down our vacation and simultaneously feeling the need to eat all of the food we purchased and drink all of the liquid we acquired. Our eyes, were indeed bigger than our stomachs.

Today is Papa’s 81st birthday but the day in Hawaii is his gift so there are no presents to open

An early morning dip in the ocean by many of the adults in our party led to sightings of bigger fish and a few turtles. The snorkeling here is just incomparable to any other beaches we’ve tried on the island. Many photos were taken underwater but only a few came out. Underwater photography isn’t my specialty.

An uneventful afternoon of card games and naps ensued, followed by a short walk down the main road to join Papa on a long walk.

Lots of hanging out today as we were rather exhausted from all day in the car yesterday. We actually ended up watching the new Cruella which was enjoyed by all. Tons of snacks and appetizers were enjoyed before an evening dip in the pool.

Korean beef and dumplings were the main course for dinner followed by drinks and laughter. A quiet relaxing evening as we wind down our trip.
