Day 9: The Drive to Toronto

We have not had an early morning on this trip. No alarms and no rush to get out the door. Today we showered and made Starbucks in our AirBnB, packed up and mapped the road to Toronto. Isn’t our little place cute? It was an OLD building with lots of interesting architecture but gosh it was old. Imagine 12 inch baseboards with original stained glass and doors that were too rickety to close.

Five and a half hours…I was prepared for some moans and groans but the drive honestly went really fast. Todd worked on his laptop, papa played games on his iPad, Katie read a book, Em crocheted, I listened to my audiobook, and grams took care of business on her phone. One thing I noticed on the way out of the French speaking province was a PFC which was clearly a KFC but it wasn’t. So I googled it and it turns out that in Quebec they passed an ordinance that says that all company names must be in French  so it’s Poulet Frit Kentucky.

We stopped for gas a few hours in, then again for lunch, and even picked up a little McDonalds while the others got Subway. So isn’t this McD’s label cute??? It has a little Canada flag!!!

We arrived in Toronto around 3pm after making incredible time and hitting no traffic. Our next AirBnB is a quad plex of a house. Imagine a duplex but with two basement apartments underneath. I have to imagine that this is a cash cow. One roof and four rents. I’m jealous!

We settled in, started some laundry, and ventured out to the local Costco and Walmart for breakfast rations. Their Costco is remarkably similar to ours back home but their food court sells chicken strips, fries, and poutine. Crazy huh? We didn’t buy any because it was mid afternoon and we had our sights on a dinner out.

Yelp is my go to for restaurant reviews and I found this tiny Mexican place near the water that sounded authentic and yummy. Thankfully, Yelp reviewers were right about Tita’s! This place had excellent everything. Excellent tacos, excellent enchiladas, excellent salsa for the chips was homemade but a little spicy.  And we ordered the churros with caramel dipping sauce…O.M.G. Everything was amazing!!!

Afterward we went to the waterfront to see Lake Ontario! There were tons of boats, jet skiers, and people just enjoying the park. The waterfront seems like a very popular place as we even saw a dance class happening right there in a pavilion! So cool.

You could see downtown Toronto in the background. A beautiful sight. One more stop at Walmart for ice cream and we were heading back to the AirBnB to relax and rest up for an early morning tomorrow. We are introducing Grams to the Netflix show Superstore which is freaking hilarious if you haven’t seen it.
