Fort Worth & Grapevine Texas - A Christmas Town!

We started our day with a drive from Waco to a Fort Worth which wasn’t a long drive. Luckily we have a similar taste in music and Katie’s playlist kept us all entertained.

We hit up a few FREE museums today. Everyone who knows me, knows I love the F word. Both of them. So we checked out the Amon Carter Museum and found many pieces of beauty to stare at.

This string exhibit was one of our favorites. It looked like the string was moving.

We then made our way over to the Modern Art Museum (free on Fridays!). This place has some out there pieces. Definitely “modern” as the title suggests. Todd and I were a little stumped on some of the exhibits.
How is this NOT Kanye West on a horse?

Literally titled “The blob.”

After enough walking and gawking at artwork, we decided our tummy’s were ready for lunch and set out to find the one thing you think of when you think Texas - SUSHI!

So, the Lion King roll is on the bottom of that photo and it was too delicious. The one above it was way too spicy for me, so Todd was forced to eat it all. He likes the spice. And while it might have been a weird pick for us to eat sushi in Texas, this stuff was super good. $32 for four of us to eat, there was a salad, miso soup, and another roll not pictured. Good prices and good eats! Blue Sushi Sake Grill was two thumbs up for us. https://yelp.to/qTKq/kPW3Cz3RL2

Next stop was Fort Worth and that is where the Stockyards are and thus where there are a lot of cows. Longhorn cows. It’s a quaint little old town place with cobblestone roads and lots of western wear. There are western shows, a human maze, horseback rides, mechanical bull rides, and even a rodeo. Then there are shops. Lots and lots of shops. You can get your cowboy boots or your bet buckles all over this town. Many authentic cowboys and cowgirls were adorned with their gear. We, did not.
These are the stockyards where the animals are kept.

You do see a lot of cowboy esc types of things around this town.

And after we walked off our lunch, and grabbed coffee and cookies at a Nestle Shop, we jumped in our National Rent a Car and headed to our hotel - which is grand! We’ve never stayed at a Home2Suites by Hilton before, but this one is super nice with a spacious room with two beds and a living room. We enjoyed a little R&R, a little remote work for Todd, SmashBros for Katie, and a little phone checking for Em and Gina.

I might spend a lot of time on my phone, but I’m conducting research for trips like this! I was searching for a sweet BBQ spot in the city of Grapevine for us to try. Grapevine is known at the Christmas Capitol of Texas so of course we had to swing by and check out the fun. Well, we had a blast. This was a must stop on our Texas tour and I’m so glad we went at night. It was beautiful! So many lights and decorations and photo ops. Definitely put me in the holiday spirit!

And then we found dinner. I looked all over Yelp and found that most places on Main Street in Grapevine didn’t have more than 3 stars. Then I found this place and the reviews were overwhelming. Over 1,000 reviews and 4.5 stars? Yeah, we had to check it out. The meat is sold by the pound and I was thinking one pound was enough since some of us weren't even that hungry. But the guy behind the counter kept piling on the food. Two ribs? Nah I’ll give you four for the same price. One pound? Okay I’ll give you an extra half pound for free. Dude, we aren’t even that hungry - but you can’t say no to this awesome Texan hospitality. So we got a lot of food and brought the leftovers back to our hotel. It. Was. Amazing. We can go home now feeling like we’ve had Texas BBQ.

This place was called Meat U Anywhere BBQ and if you find yourself near Grapevine or Fort Worth or evening in Dallas, you should drive up to this place. It’s worth it. https://yelp.to/qTKq/nffibMJ8L2

Finally, this chick is always up for some comedic entertainment so needless to say, when we walked past this booth, nobody had to ask her to take a seat and get to work.
Traveling together brings us so much closer. During the workweek, we don’t spend 12 hours straight with each other. We aren’t compromising and talking about what to do or when and where to stop. I enjoy planning vacations so much because it means we are spending time together. I’m already planning the next trip.... in my head anyways 😉
