Taking Off for 10 Days!

We are about to embark upon an Alaskan cruise to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary! We are lucky enough to have our kids joining us and all of their significant others. We have a mini vaca before the cruise to explore the Canadian city of Vancouver. And we are starting off today!

Before we get to Canada, let me tell you the journey we had to get here. Earlier this week Emily and I received emails reminding us to check in. Katie didn’t receive on. That was odd. When we finally found her confirmation number buried in Air Canada’s system, we discovered that I booked her flight for Thursday. We are flying Wednesday. Uh oh. I wish I could say that this is the first time I’ve ever made travel arrangements errors, but it’s not. Honestly, I feel like EVERY trip we go on we discover a little snafu. Nothing we can’t work around but it’s making me think that someone else should double check my bookings. Just for good measure.

Sorry Kate and Stephen! Jess and Caleb are meeting us in Vancouver Friday night since they are coming from Utah. But yikes! Changing the flight was $1,000 so Kate and Stephen will arrive Thursday night…And we will miss them!

We began our journey from Sacramento today and all the heat, to the cold and windy San Francisco. As the car was packed, and we were finalizing the lock up of our house for the house sitter, Todd asks, “Do we have everything?” And I go, PASSPORTS! Boy was that a close one! Then we got about an hour down highway 80 when we realized that one bag was left behind. And that bag had waterproof shoes for Alaskan rain but more importantly, the discs! Disc golf is a pastime for a few people on this trip and there is excitement about playing a few more international courses. So with the help of Jacob’s mom, we started driving back, she secured the bag, then drove to meet us, and in Davis we made the trade off and set our eyes on the road once again.

We enjoyed some lovely chats on the drive but tried to avoid the stressful politics and economy discussions. We are on vacation for goodness sakes!

Phew! We still made it to the airport on time and parked at the trusty CheapAirportParking.com lot.

And once inside the airport we found a nice sit down restaurant to fill our bellies before our 9pm flight. I can’t say enough about this Cobb Salad that I had. It was absolutely fantastic.

After grubbing and mapping out disc golf for tomorrow, we waited and waited until we boarded and enjoyed a quick 1 hour 45 minute flight to Vancouver.

The airport was pretty cool! Lots of indigenous art and exhibits to honor the First People who lived here.

They literally had a pond inside with an outrigger canoe. The river rock waterfall was amazing because the water sounded like a rain stick as it fell. A new city! New experiences! Love it!

A quick Lift ride to our Air bnb for the next three nights, a shower for some, and we hit the sack. Tomorrow is our first full day!
