SF Day Trip - The City

SF is known by many in Northern California as just “The City.” We all know what city you’re talking about if you say those two words. For me, it often feels like home when I drive over the Bay Bridge and see the city skyline. I moved to SF at age 13 and stayed until 20. There were a lot of my formative years spent in one of the most well known cities in the world.

I learned to drive, a stick shift no less, on these hills. I traipsed around this city without a parent chaperone at age 13. I can’t say that I would have allowed our girls to do the same. And yet I survived. So many kids from the 80’s have the same stories. So much freedom to explore and so much space to find trouble. I got into a lot of sticky situations during my time in SF but it’ll always hold a special place in my heart.

Hence why we visited today! SFO is usually a cheaper airport so we are here for ulterior motives, but it was also a good chance to explore more of the city I love…with my love  here’s a shot with this handsome guy who’s been my partner for 21 years next month ❤️

We drove to the top of Twin Peeks which neither of us had ever been to. The funny thing about living in SF is that somehow you never seem to see everything. This chilly place was a first for us both - thankfully we didn’t lose this kid ๐Ÿ˜‰

Next we headed to the Sunset District (where I used to live) for some grub and window shopping. We almost went to a Korean BBQ place but settled on this Thai place called Sriracha Thai. And boy was that a good find. We all shared and we ordered well. Pad Thai, pad see ew, pad ga-prow, Thai iced tea, and some broccoli beef. Everything was delicious and well portioned. The service was excellent. There was only one photo of food because we were hungry and not thinking about documenting the food experience.

Finally we checked out a place that I’ve been to but have somehow never taken the kids. Stow Lake. It’s beautiful guys. If you didn’t know, Golden Gate Park was modeled after Central Park in New York City and these great places make visiting the park a whole experience. We didn’t paddle, but we enjoyed the water, a waterfall, and even a trail of flower petals that we assume were from an engagement.

The craziest thing happened after the park. We saw, a coyote! In all my years of being in the park, I’ve never seen a coyote. I’ve heard that with COVID there were more animals coming out since the city was desolate, but it isn’t deserted anymore! We found parking but the park was busy! I was lucky enough to get a video of it all.

Our hotel is down south by the airport but we stopped by Boudins before we left The City so that we’d have some dinner and be able to just rest and relax before our flight tomorrow. It’s always a good idea to get bread. Hmm. Bread. As we were driving to grab some loaves, I saw a rose garden on the edge of GG Park and quickly found parking so we could take in the sights.

Yet another place that somehow I’d never seen in SF. Maybe it’s because when you live somewhere you are busy working, paying rent, going to college, etc., but I am always surprised to find that The City that raised me still has surprises in store for me.

Until next time SF! I already have plans for our next trip and for new things we haven’t seen and didn’t get a chance to today ๐Ÿ˜‰
