Today started off well with yummy coffee on the lanai. We all slept well in our comfy beds and woke up ready for the day.
Then it rained. We dragged our feet as we hoped that it would dry up and eventually moseyed out of the house by 10am. We headed to a local farmers market where we found fresh asparagus, local honey, delicious papaya, and some mangos.
We checked out the shops and found some cute trinkets and clothes that added to our island feeling. Years ago when we visited Kauai for the first time, we stayed in Kapaa and found this amazing taco place. We just had to go back, so our lunch plans were set.
Tiki Tacos seems to have found a following as their Yelp page suggests that they have over 1300 reviews. We approve!
I had the fish tacos, others had shrimp, al pastor (which had pineapple and I’m so sad I didn’t order that), and chicken. Everyone was happy with their orders and one taco is plenty. They are huge. The fresh made tortillas hold everything together without breaking, which sure makes tacos easier to eat.
Afterward, we began the drive back to the condo which was about a 40 minute drive, but we detoured and caught a waterfall along the way. Wailua Falls has a 173 foot fall.
After the rain that dumped on us earlier today, this river was dumping and the waterfall was heavy. It was a quick five minute stop and we were back on the road to home.
The pool was calling and most of us need to work on our tans, so we made some rum runners and headed to the loungers. Looks like paradise right?
An hour at the pool and a little downpour later, we were back upstairs and lounging around. The most comfortable spot in the living room is the couch, which was swiftly taken over by the aged couple. The rest of us charged our phones and looked up restaurant menus while Katie worked away at the computer as she’s taking CTE credential classes.
Dinner plans were at Eating House 1849 which is like Roy’s if you’ve been to one of his locations. Here is the history behind the name:
Reservations were late…7:45pm and this over the hill crew doesn’t usually eat that late, but alas! We didn’t plan ahead and therefore had limited choices of times. It was worth it. Here are the many photos of tonight’s delicious food. Everything was worth it, including the 8:30pm meal arrival.
We started with spicy edamame, Mai tais, and then had potstickers as an appetizer. Most of the table ordered the butterfish, but a few ordered the slow roasted short ribs, and one solo guy ordered the ahi tuna.
And to wrap up our dinner, we ordered dessert at 9pm and we regret nothing. The molten lava cake is always divine and the raspberry sauce was extra tart and delectable. Grams ordered the pineapple upside down cake and it received some mixed reviews.
We found this super cute photo spot and got everyone in the photo. A lovely group indeed.
We are stuffed and trying to stay upright instead of laying down with these full bellies. But we are happy and content and glad that we went - even at 8pm.
One last photo of the evening. The wall of the restaurant. Do you know what that means?
