College Fjord, Cruising, and the Last Day
I’m writing this at 5:15 from the Explorer’s Lounge where we are listening to a swing band. These cruises have everything under the sun to try out. Game shows, bingo, slot machines, you name it! We have not done the two last things mentioned, but we have listened to a lot of live music and played a few game show style events.
We rose late this morning and said that we would only have a light breakfast so that we could try out the Palm Dining room for lunch. “Light” is a word open for interpretation…lunch was a change of pace. We have not had a sit down lunch on this boat so today we tried it out. Fried calamari and Thai spring rolls were some of the dishes we were excited to try. A few ordered the mac n cheese and the Cobb salad was devoured by three at the table. Who’s hungry? Not us!
The skies are a bit foggy today as we travel toward College Fjord. We have a short distance to travel between today and tomorrow when we arrive in Whittier.
We ordered pictures today, got more detailed information about our disembarkation tomorrow, and roamed around the ship a bit. A few in the group helped Jacob with a homework assignment and then four went to play Magic upstairs on deck 15 where we watched out the window to water smooth like glass. We are traveling inland and there are no waves at all. No whale sightings today sadly.
My pillow was falling my name and I took a Power Nap just before this swing band concert began. They are quite good as I sit here and write this. A few couples got up and danced on the dance floor which was sweet.
One cool thing from this cruise has been the door decorations. We didn’t realize this was a thing but there are a few doors with magnet decorations or a little decor to dress up their cabin doors. Here is one I snapped a photo of. It’s a cute way to get in the mood for cruising or celebrate the fact that you are on vacation.
After the amazing music and tunes, we stepped outside for some nature viewing. We are cruising into another dead end glacier so there are a lot of trees along the shoreline.
Amazingly it was dinner time. Where did the day go? We were seated around 6:45pm which is the latest we’ve eaten this week. The farewell dinner was prime rib and lamb shanks. The food was delicious, but some complimented our family’s cooking by saying that dad and grandma make it better ❤️
We took a very chilly walk to the side of the boat to see the glacier, then the front of the boat which was very cold, and finally we rounded out our exploration at the back of the ship where we could see what we were leaving behind. The views have been stunning. Chunks of ice floating in the ocean from the glacier. It looks a lot like that movie Ice Age.
And back to the room to pack I went, but others went out to the hot tub and some played Magic. Lots of space for everyone to do their own thing.
