Ketchikan Alaska for 5 Hours

This morning we docked in Ketchikan but only got off the boat around 8am. We had a small itinerary for today and our first stop was going to be Totem Bight State Park. We read online that instead of paying for a guided tour, you can pay $2 and take the city bus. So that’s what we did!

We saw a ton of different totems and got to read a bit about how they are served and what ceremonies they would be used for. It was a smaller state park so we walked through the pathway in under an hour. It gave us time to catch the bus back to town so we could check out all the shops!

We noises through town and eventually found souvenir shops for magnets, shirts, sweatshirts, and Christmas ornaments. Creek Street is a sight to see! It was filled with shops that are on stilts overlooking the creek. Some were particularly know for their brothel activities while others provided shopping for the many gold miners who came to town looking to strike it rich.

We had a great time walking around and were lucky enough to have no rain! Our last adventure of the day ashore was the Lumberjack Show. This is touted as a must do activity while in port so we checked it out. It was very entertaining and a little frightening to see how close these men could be to injuring themselves with the axes or chainsaws.

It was a great show and the outdoor area was well equipped for the large group there to watch and cheer on the lumberjacks.

We journeyed back to the ship at 1:30 for a 2pm departure. Many of us immediately went to the buffet to grab a light late lunch. Todd and I found some wonderful salads. We knew that we had dinner at 5 so we kept it light.

Then Todd did some work, I went to the hot-tub, ran into Katie/Stephen and Emily/Jacob. Relaxed for a bit. Met some new people. Came back to the room and took a quick nap before dinner. Ahhhh, vacation!

Sooo many good options for dinner. I actually didn’t love the cod I ordered so I stopped eating it and ordered the spaghetti and meatballs! And I’m glad I did because it was amazing!

After dinner we caught a magician/comedian show. Apparently this guy has been on America’s Got Talent and Netflix. He just won an Emmy? That was cool, and his show was unbelievable! We were all enthralled and intrigued by his skills.

And because the night could not end at 8:30pm some of us wandered over the Explorers Lounge to play a version of the newlyweds game. Todd and I signed up but only Katie and Stephen got picked….and they won!

They weren’t really questions about each other. More questions like how many states could you name in 30 seconds? It was funny and comical and they had fun. That’s all that matters ❤️
